Steel Fabrication

Steel fabrication is the process of converting steel into steel structures or spare parts using a variety of fabrication processes including cutting, bending, welding and assembling processes. Simply, steel fabrication is basically transforming a metal into the shape you need.

Cut to Size

Steel cut to size means that steel coils have been cut down into shorter, more manageable lengthsThis process is called cut-to-length (CTL) processing.

CTL processing is a quick and easy way to create shorter pieces of steel that can be used for various applications. The cuts are generally consistent and accurate, which is important for applications that require precise measurements. However, CTL processing is generally only suitable for straight cuts.

Bending

What is steel bending?

Bending or rolling steel is the process of curving a length of steel, also known as a steel member, to a specified radius and arc length. Bending is commonly used to describe the process for a tighter radius bend, whereas rolling is used to describe a larger radius bend.

Rolling

Steel rolling is a metalworking process that shapes steel into different forms by passing it through rollers:

  • Reduces thickness

The thickness of the steel is reduced by passing it between rollers that are spaced slightly less than the thickness of the steel.

  • Makes thickness uniform

The thickness of the steel is made uniform by passing it between rollers.

  • Imparts mechanical properties

The steel is given a desired mechanical property by passing it between rollers.

  • Forms shapes

The steel is formed into shapes such as bars, sheets, rods, rails, girders, and wires.

Steel rolling can be done hot or cold, depending on the temperature of the steel:

  • Hot rolling

The steel is rolled when it is above its recrystallization temperature. Hot rolling processes more tonnage than any other manufacturing process.

  • Cold rolling

The steel is rolled when it is below its recrystallization temperature. Cold rolling is often done after hot rolling to improve the steel's mechanical properties, machinability, or surface.

Rolling is a widely used method for shaping metals and is an important part of steel manufacturing.

Plasma Cutting

What is the plasma cutting process?

Plasma cutting (plasma arc cutting) is a melting process in which a jet of ionised gas at temperatures above 20,000°C is used to melt and expel material from the cut. During the process, an electric arc is struck between an electrode (cathode) and the workpiece (anode).

Plasma Cutters Can Cut Almost Any Form of Material

If you wanted to cut various forms of metal (plate, tube, angle, beam, grating), you would need multiple different types of saws or shears. A plasma cutter can do it all.

Lazer Cutting

What is meant by laser cutting?

Laser cutting is mainly a thermal process in which a focused laser beam is used to melt material in a localised area. A co-axial gas jet is used to eject the molten material and create a kerf. A continuous cut is produced by moving the laser beam or workpiece under CNC control.
